Those who are interested in the field of game development will probably remember that last August, Unity Technologies announced the inclusion of Windows 8 in the list of supported operating systems for cross-platform game creation tools. Until now, preliminary versions of these tools have been available to a limited number of developers, and today Unity provides access to the Unity 4 Game Engine beta for Windows 8 as part of the special Unity program Windows Store apps open beta.

More than 1.5 million registered Unity developers worldwide have the opportunity to create colorful interactive games for Windows 8 using all the features included in the Unity 4 Engine toolkit. For independent developers and studios, creating games with Unity’s cross-platform capabilities means reducing costs and barriers to creating high-quality, exciting games.

Thanks to DirectX tessellation support tools, Unity 4 takes the quality and detail of rendering to a truly new level, and the built-in animation mechanisms of Mecanim and support for various special effects add unprecedented realism to the games under development.
A number of games created on the basis of the new Unity technology have already been published in the Windows 8 application store.

For example, this is Drift Mania Championship2, Gunpowder, Rumpelstiltskin 3D, Snow White Prequel, Razor Salvation, Siegecraft, Qbism, Hungry MonsTr, Fligh Theory, Experiment HD and Big Buck Hunder. Microsoft is pleased to welcome Unity and the 1.5 million registered Unity developers on the Windows platform, and we hope that thanks to their efforts and work, new exciting games will be waiting for Windows 8 users in the near future.
