Iranians built a supercomputer on Opteron processors

AMD Opteron processors became the basis for the Iranian supercomputer. Despite the trade embargo, Persian engineers somewhere got hold of a batch of Opteron processors (216 processor cores) and assembled a relatively small cluster running Linux with a capacity of 860 gigaflops. Although small, it is the most powerful supercomputer in Iran today. The Iranians solemnly declared this on the website of the Iranian Research Center for High Performance Computing (IHPCRC).

The Americans began an investigation into the incident and are trying to find the perpetrators. AMD denies any involvement in the violation of the embargo.

Journalists conducted their own investigation and found a photo on the IHPCRC website in which the engineer assembles a supercomputer module with a screwdriver, and he has folded boxes with a manual signature “UAE”, which means “United Arab Emirates” and is the official distributor of AMD. Here is the full size version of this photo.
