Google Books' book digitization project operators are working hard and hard. The program involves 27 universities and ten thousand publishers from around the world. On the website, books appear in open access in PDF format immediately, as soon as the copyright expires for them, and “closed” works are also available for full-text search.
Recently, the volume of scanned literature has exceeded one million volumes and continues to increase by 3000 per day. All work is done manually. However, such a rush does not pass without a trace. Operators leave their prints on the pages of history, in the most direct sense.
On the pages of ancient magazines and books, readers find strange images of fingers in pink rubber bands. Here is
one such page from The Gentleman's Magazine of the 1855 edition. Another hand found in the book of Plato.

In general, experts note the poor quality of digitizing many books. Obviously, scanning technology needs to be improved.
