Two new robots from ... Toyota

The Japanese car maker Toyota entered the “robotics path”, demonstrating two new developments - a robot capable of playing the violin and a transport robot in the form of a futuristic wheelchair.

The 152-centimeter robot musician is a human-like machine capable of quite tolerably extracting sounds from such an instrument as a violin. It is so tolerable that the robot plays without problems the melody of the English composer Edward Elgar's “Pomp and Circumstance” march “Pomp and Circumstance”, popular in Japan (particularly at graduation ceremonies). And all at the expense of 16 joints, allowing the robot's mechanical hands to master the violin “masterly”. According to representatives of Toyota, this "violinist" can be used in medical institutions and boarding houses for the elderly for entertainment purposes.

The second product of the Japanese company, called simply “mobility robot”, which can be translated as a “robot for movement”, is a sort of smart chair that can take a person crouched on him (short distances) to the desired point, bypassing obstacles and following the route. In addition, using the remote control "chair" can be "called" closer so as not to make unnecessary movements. In Toyota they consider (I think, it is quite reasonable) that the “robot for movement” will be appreciated by elderly people or patients of clinics who are not allowed to move a lot on their own.

Having released these two robots, Toyota has shown that it is going to continue to conduct research and development in the field of robotics. This is also confirmed by the fact that next year the company plans to launch a research laboratory, the purpose of which is to develop technologies for creating robots, as well as a possible increase in the number of engineers in the next three years.
