Ubuntu Global Jam 13.04 in Novosibirsk

On March 3, Novosibirsk successfully passed Ubuntu Global Jam, organized by the Novosibirsk GNU / Linux user group.
Ubuntu Global Jam is an event for anyone who would like to gain experience in developing Free Software. Within the framework of Ubuntu Global Jam, several reports were made on open source software issues, as well as workshops on various aspects of the development of the Ubuntu Linux distribution.

Under the cut a small report through the eyes of one of the organizers. I, unfortunately, missed this event.


In the first report, Grigory Koshcheev spoke about free software, its advantages, and differences from free and open source software (presentation) .

Then Alexey Rusetsky shared his thoughts on the use of Linux in education, and also spoke about the progress of the project on the introduction of Linux in schools.



After the tea party, Sergey Basalaev showed how to translate programs using the Launchpad.





The master class, which was conducted by Maya Kojeva, was devoted to assembling the packages and uploading them to the PPA on Launchpad. During the master class, participants had the opportunity to personally go through all the steps necessary to create a new package ( presentation ).



Simultaneously with the master class on assembling packages, a round table was held, the theme of which was the situation with games in Linux. Participants discussed the release of Steam and rated several games available through it.







The organizers convey a separate hello to colleagues from Barnaul, who visited Ubuntu Global Jam.



The organizers are very grateful for the premises provided to the Center for Additional Education of the Institute of Open Distance Education of the NSPU represented by the director of the center of emergency education - Zayelenkova Irina Vladimirovna and the director of IODO - Gizhitskaya Svetlana Aleksandrovna. Special thanks to all the speakers and leading master classes, as well as the team of volunteers who participated in the preparation of the event. And, of course, the organizers are grateful to everyone who took the time and energy to attend the event.
