Seagate stops 7200rpm HDD release for laptops

One of the largest manufacturers of hard drives in the world, the company Seagate, announced its intention to stop the 2.5-inch 7200rpm HDD for laptops. The production facilities released as a result of this step will be used by the company for the production of SSD / HDD hybrids.

Actually, the step is quite logical, since the 2.5-inch 7200rpm HDD, despite all its performance, and some, as they say, did not stand with analogues in the world of SSD. And the farther, the more manufacturers began to equip their premium notebook models (and the “middling ones already, too) with solid-state drives, replacing the expensive 2.5-inch 7200rpm HDDs with them. In the light of these events, the company made such a decision.

However, 3.5-inch 7200rpm hard drives for desktop PCs will be released. As for analogs for laptops, they will stop producing by the end of this year. Of course, similar models of hard drives of other companies remain, but there is a high probability that other manufacturers will choose an option similar to the Seagate version.

It is worth noting that now the company does not release solid-state drives, but instead Seagate offers hybrid solutions to offer the best in the world of HDD / SSD. In any case, such hybrids have one very significant advantage compared to SSD: the cost of a MB for a hybrid is significantly lower than that of a pure SSD.
