Qualcomm claims Snapdragon 800 beats Nvidia Tegra 4 easily

All eyes of the mobile world are fixed on Tegra 4 - the new Nvidia processor. The iron maker wisely demonstrated the potential for chip performance this week at the Mobile World Congress and the fact that the quad-core Cortex-A15 processor and the 72-core GPU were able to smash the current generation of competitors in tins did not come as a big surprise.

Qualcomm, Nvidia’s biggest competitor on the market, is not a bit worried. Raj Talluri, senior vice president of product management, told The Verge that, although Qualcomm is more involved in product delivery than competing with competitors in the benchmarks, they believe that the Snapdragon 800 processor will easily beat Tegra 4.

He said that Nvidia’s offer might be impressive, but the 800-series chip is integrated so much that, for example, it even has an LTE modem built right into the chip. The new Snapdragon can also encode and decode 4K content. If you have ever tried to watch 4K video on your desktop, you most likely already know what a difficult task it is.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 is already scheduled for use in more than 50 upcoming products. It is expected that the quad-core 2.3 GHz chip will be announced for use in several more devices this year.
