At the World Mobile Congress held in Barcelona, an annual presentation took place, during which IDC analyst Simon Baker gave the final results of smartphone sales in Russia in 2012.
Like the reports of other companies (and
Kantar ,
Euroset , and MTS recently did them), it shows new sales of devices carried out in Russia. Accordingly, it does not take into account ordinary mobile phones (and they are still under 70% in Russia) and does not show the devices already on hand (we are talking about new sales).

The main findings of IDC are as follows:
- Android continues to grow steadily, essentially occupying almost all of the previous share of Symbian
- In accordance with last year’s forecast, Windows Phone sales in Russia surpassed the iPhone
- Linux in the form of Samsung Bada is more than successful in Russia, although globally the numbers are much more modest.
The growth of Windows Phone in Russia is in the trend of
global results - in Italy, for example, it has already reached the mark of 14% of new devices, and in the US several times ahead of Blackberry. In Russia at the end of 2012, the figure is 7%.
IDC also cited data on smartphone manufacturers:
')

For the year, Samsung confidently came out on top (as in the whole world), and in Russia its share exceeded 50%.
At the same time, competition between other brands increases significantly.
In general, it can be noted that on a global scale, Russia is still not among the leaders in the popularity of smartphones. The 50% mark against ordinary US phones passed last winter, Europe even earlier, and in Russia, according to IDC, this can only happen closer to 2015.
