Looking at the growing popularity of low-cost three-dimensional printers, many probably thought about three-dimensional scanners, and now the
first such project has already appeared on the kickstarter.
Short description
CADScan 3D allows you to scan objects with dimensions up to 250mm x 250mm x 250mm, with an accuracy of 0.2 mm. The object is located on a rotating platform; two scanning heads are used for scanning: one moves in a vertical plane, the other in a horizontal one. First, the object is scanned at a low resolution, which makes it possible to more accurately position the head when scanning at a high resolution. The result can be saved in one of the popular formats, for example STL, OBJ, or PLY.
While compatibility with mac and windows is claimed, compatibility with linux is “planned” and the device is not “Open Hardware” - the authors have applied for patenting the design of scanning heads.
I think now we should expect the appearance of other similar projects.
