Despite the fact that since the
publication of the first experimental builds with Ubuntu editions for
smartphones and
tablet PCs, less than a week has passed, apart from the initially supported builds for Samsung Galaxy Nexus / Nexus 4 smartphones and Nexus 7/10 tablets, another
24 devices were portrayed by enthusiasts originally shipped with the Android platform. Ready-made installation assemblies are already available for devices such as Sony Xperia S, Sony Xperia T, Huawei Ascend G300, VZ SGSIII, Samsung Galaxy S, Samsung Galaxy Note II, Asus Transformer Infinity, Asus Transformer Pad and Nexus One Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.
Rapid porting to new devices is mainly promoted by the use of the basic components of the Android platform as the basis for Ubuntu for phones and tablets. In fact, for devices already supported by the Android platform, it is
enough to adapt for the device, a chroot environment with Ubuntu components running on top of Android. The kernel, drivers, OpenGL ES2.0 interlayer, multimedia content processing components, system services and SurfaceFlinger composite manager are used from the Android platform. For the interaction of the Android environment and the Ubuntu chroot environment,
libhybris and the
Binder IPC mechanism are involved.

pnick user correctly noted, most of the images are only in the Work in progress status and are not available for download. We hope for the early appearance of ready-made assemblies and expanding the list of supported devices.
