Another new feature in Gmail. Built-in chat now allows you to communicate with users of the AIM instant messaging system, the most popular IM system in the United States, with 53 million users. A new feature has been added to the Gmail version 2.0 interface and is still available to a limited circle of users. Note that we are not talking about cross-system authentication of accounts. The Gmail Help Center reports that it’s now possible for users to use their AIM account to communicate through the built-in Gmail chat. The function is implemented on the basis of open API for AIM. The function has not yet been implemented in the desktop and gadget versions of the Google Talk client, which suggests improvisation. Recall that Google in 2005 concluded an agreement according to which it is supposed to enable users of two instant messaging systems to communicate with each other. Unfortunately, as we see, this idea is far from being fully implemented.
