2 weeks ago, Sony announced an important event that should have happened on February 20th. On the Internet, a great many disputes have arisen on this topic. Some talked about the announcement of PSVita 2, while others believed that the PlayStation 4 would be announced on February 20th. The latter were right.
So, on February 20, a presentation was held called “PlayStation Meeting 2013” (in more detail
here ). Experienced designer Mark Cerny, who led the development of a new console, briefly told us about its functionality and technical characteristics.
The PlayStation 4 device is very similar to an ordinary PC device. The console uses an 8-core x86 processor architecture. 8 GB of RAM standard GDDR5 (compared with 512 megabytes in the PlayStation 3, impressively). The special device of the RAM will allow you to realize the function of instant game resumption, that is, you can equally well turn off the console in the middle of the game and continue it by simply turning on the console. It will take very little time. The permanent memory of the device will still be represented in the form of HDD.

Controller
The controller is basically identical to the photos leaked to the network, just before the presentation. One gets the impression that they provoke "leaks" on purpose. Unlike the PS3 controller, the new gamepad has acquired a special refinement. It has a rear touch panel as in PSVita and a special color identifier that is used to identify the player, i.e. each player is assigned a color.
Design and functionality
Gaikai technology allows you to play PS4 on PSVita. Yes, you heard right! Thus, PS4 will be the server and the executor of the game code, while PSVita will act as a client. Sony considers this technology to be the driving force of its business. Indeed, PSVita has recently lost the interest of users. After the release of PS4, Gaikai technology should increase user interest in the PSVita console.
Sony decided to take a desperate step towards full Facebook integration. A proven social network will be the basis for sharing your gaming experience and achievements.
Now instead of nicknames, users will have to use real names, surnames and photos. Many have not approved this, including me. Nevertheless, this is a good step, because now you can easily record a video gameplay or take a screenshot and immediately share it with your friends.
After the foregoing, the PlayStation 4 OS interface was introduced, which incorporated the basic principles of XMB (Xross Media Bar). Judging by the presentation, the interface is carefully crafted and should appeal to users.
Oddly enough, the device itself was not represented. This is probably done to intrigue users, because Sony should leave at least something for E3. ;)
