Dial-up service still brings AOL 500 million dollars a year

The current head of the company Tim Armstrong

On Habré, dial-up is often spoken about more in a historical way, so to speak. Someone recalls with warmth the sound made by the modem when it is connected, someone recalls with horror the constant breaks in communication and blockers on the phones. Most dial-up subscribers happily switched to broadband access as soon as the corresponding service appeared in cities, towns and urban-type settlements. But it turns out that dial-up is still very much alive. At least in the USA.

Here, the dial-up market is mostly owned by AOL (which has recently ceased to be unprofitable), and brings about $ 500 million a year. It is clear that this market is constantly shrinking, but AOL is trying to provide additional services to subscribers so that they do not refuse dial-up and continue to use the service.

It should be noted that this service brings the company more money than all the other services and services combined. In the 1990s, AOL became a rich corporation thanks to a quickly organized dial-up service, which millions of Americans began to use. And, as we see, this is still a fairly reliable business, although many do not even remember what a dial-up is and how to work with it.
