On Friday, BitTorrent announced the launch of SoShare's public beta, a service that surpasses services like YouSendIt, DropBox and others, allowing you to transfer up to 1TB. The company is positioning the service for people using creative professions - designers, photographers, musicians, and so on - those who work with large amounts of data, but have difficulty sending them to each other due to limitations of postal services and synchronization and sending services.

It is easy to guess that SoShare is based on the BitTorrent protocol combined with cloud caching, so that recipients can access files even if the sender is offline. As mentioned above, the service allows you to transfer up to 1TB of data, it does not matter whether it is one file or several. Copies of these files will be stored online for up to 30 days, but you can specify that they be deleted earlier. To upload and download files, the user must install a plugin for the browser, but to access the shared files it is not necessary to register.
To share a file with someone, you can create both private and public links to files. BitTorrent states that the service supports distributed transmission, i.e. the more people have access to the file, the more the channel will be unloaded. There are also other BitTorrent features like the ability to stop the download and continue from the same place later. In addition, SoShare monitors the sending status and will let you know when your recipients have finished downloading what you sent them.

To start working with the service, register at
soshareit.com , create an account and install the SoShare plugin (~ 1.5MB) for Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Internet Explorer for Windows or OS X.
UPD: As after checking reports in
Lisio comments, Linux is not supported.
The service is still at an early stage of testing, and therefore BitTorrent warns that you can easily detect errors here and there. SoShare will remain completely free throughout the beta testing period, but according to
GigaOm, over time, the company may consider different options for monetizing the service.
