"Yandex" was invited to the World Economic Forum as a pioneer

An interesting news came from a special commission at the World Economic Forum, which was engaged in the selection of winners of the The Technology Pioneers 2008 competition. The Russian search engine Yandex , as reported, was one of the 38 best technological innovators in the world and was awarded the title of "technological pioneer".

39 "technology pioneers" were selected by authoritative experts from a list of 225 candidates who submitted applications for participation in the competition. All winners receive an invitation to the World Economic Forum in Davos for the next two years. Why Yandex needed this is not entirely clear. Perhaps he wants to become a full-fledged member of the WEF and to establish direct contacts with the largest Western financiers, bankers and venture investors who gather annually in Davos. These links can be very useful if the Russian Internet giant decides to finally hold an IPO.

The procedure for expanding membership in the WEF may begin with the title “The Technology Pioneers 2008”. For example, another Russian company, IBS Group, chose this path at the time.
