The Ubuntu Phone installation image for the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 will be available for download next week. Canonical already
announced this today . Starting from February 21 two collected images will be available for download.
The image will give fans and developers the same chance to gain experience with Ubuntu Phone before the official release.
But if during the “firmware” you are afraid for the phone, then Canonical took care of that. To accompany the image, a desktop application will be released that downloads, updates and installs Ubuntu Phone on available devices.
It is likely that it will be similar to
the 'Nexus 7' installer , allowing Google Nexus 7 owners to quickly install Ubuntu on the device.

Source Code = More Support
But what is more important than the release itself, so this is that in addition to the compiled images there will be no compiled code. The source code for Ubuntu Phone will also be available.
This “milestone” will be important for the Ubuntu Phone project, as this will be the first time that third-party developers can “dive” into the code. As in any other open source project, developers can fix bugs themselves and add new features, as well as port to other devices.
“Our platform supports a wide class of monitor sizes and resolutions, Developers with experience can easily port Ubuntu to existing phones,” said Pat McGowan of Canonical, the man who heads the imaging team. Ubuntu Phone is also well designed to work on weak smartphones.
