GIPS VoIP Codecs Embedded on Mobile

The Global IP Sound GIPS VoiceEngine engine will now be used not only in Skype for PC, but also in mobile phones, adapters for analog phones and other devices using the VoIP protocol. This was signed by the relevant agreement between Global IP Sound Inc. and by Skype .

GIPS VoiceEngine technology has been used in Skype since summer 2003. It includes codecs and other components that effectively eliminate echo, jitter and other distortions that occur when transmitting sound over the Internet.

Expansion of the license indicates that Skype intends to expand its business outside of personal computers. The VoIP-telephony service is becoming increasingly available for mobile phone users who connect to the Internet via WiFi hotspots or through special VoIP-gates .

VoIP telephony support in the future may become a standard feature for mobile phones. The Korean corporation Samsung has already announced the start of production of dual-use GSM / WiFi mobiles with embedded GIPS VoiceEngine technology, and recently it has announced the signing of a license agreement with Texas Instruments for the production of chips with embedded GIPS VoiceEngine codecs. As is known, TI chips are used in many models of mobile phones from various manufacturers.
