New Google service: site editor ?!

Everybody's beloved, Google plans in spring 2008 to offer us a new online service that opens up wide opportunities - a website editor, which will become part of the Google Apps corporate office suite. To ensure that this project did not have to be created from scratch in early November of this year, Google bought JotSpot, without any announcements, whose employees and developments became fully owned by the company.

JotSpot specializes in developing software for creating websites based on the Wiki technology, but unlike the classic implementation of the wiki, as well as hundreds of other wiki engines, the company's platform allows for the joint editing of spreadsheets, file storage, calendars, photo galleries and documents of other formats. The proprietary engine supports many functions not available in the current version of the standard wiki, for example, the ability to send an email to the address of any page in a wiki project or automatic indexing of Word and Excel documents attached to the project.

Another distinctive feature of JotSpot is a more user-friendly interface, which attracts many buyers from commercial companies to this platform, who are also traditionally afraid to use open source software, such as wiki. Actually, JotSpot was originally designed specifically for use in corporate networks.

Today, Google is already offering to use the Google Page Creator editor, but this tool, by modern standards, has rather limited functionality.

The new development of Google Sites in addition to the basic development of sites, will offer business users also the opportunity to create intranet portals, project management systems, as well as multi-user environments for working on any projects. In addition, it will be possible to work with sites while being offline, for this you need to use another Google Gears tool.

The launch of such a project will help the company expand its advertising market and give another opportunity for network users to create their website, personal page or diary. Coupled with the online data storage, which Google will launch in the near future, it will give great opportunities.

Let's see what happens!
