“The value of the .UA domain for a country is very simple to explain. If we imagine a situation in which our servers are turned off, this will mean the complete disappearance of Ukraine from the Internet, ”says the head of the press service of the Hostmaster company, Natalia Oleynikova. For the last six years, Hostmaster has been the .UA domain administrator.
Over the 15 years of its existence, the Ukrainian national domain managed to grow fairly. On October 25, the 300,000th name was registered in the .UA. At the same time, specialists observed a record development dynamics: if the first 100 thousand names in the framework of the .UA recruited 11 years (from 1992 to 2003), and the second hundred — 3 years (from 2003 to 2006), then the last hundred thousand Ukrainian domains users managed to register in just a year. “It should be understood that 300 thousand domains are not 300 thousand sites,” adds Natalya Oleinikova. According to her, among the names registered in the .UA zone, many are so-called “parked” - existing, but not yet used. The number of Ukrainian sites, in turn, cannot be established, since many of them are registered on common domains, such as .org, .net, or .com. It is noteworthy that the network still has a national top-level domain .SU, registered in 1990 for the USSR.
