Leap Motion. Unpacking and small overview

Instead of the preface

Finally, I waited for the device. The problem was that I ordered it at my home address, and not at work and the courier did not catch me when I was at home. As some of you may have guessed, it will be a question of Leap Motion .

For those who would like to remember or even learn about the capabilities of Leap Motion can read the link or watch a short video.

')

Next will go photos with a little description of me.

The box itself, as it flew across the oceans.

Inside is a black box with a version.

Inside the black box was the device itself, a cable (USB - microUSB) and a letter from the creators of the device.

Leap Motion is small, about 7.5 cm long and 3 cm wide.

On the one hand there are miniUSB and microUSB connectors perfectly combining both of them. As suggested by Firz , this is still USB 3.0.

The front side is covered with glass, but the back is rubberized, which allows you not to slide on the table and lie steadily.

Connect and start.

After downloading the SDK with examples (registration is required) and running the program I saw the log window.

The device driver asked for the username and password of the developer account.

Here are all the possible actions of the program through the tray menu. Updates have been installed last. Go to the settings:

Everything is quite simple. There is a detailed description explaining what is responsible for what.

Calibrate device. I didn’t fully understand how to hold my fingers, but apparently I just did not read it carefully. As suggested by one of my readers, that I am very inconsiderate and just had to read the first line, which indicates that you can adjust using a pencil / pen.

Further I will show some of the programs that I managed to run included in the SDK.

He recognizes fingers well, though there are artifacts, but I sin on poor calibration

These are the examples inside the Leap Motion SDK.

Impression

In general, the impressions of the device remained ambiguous. The design itself is remarkable, but there are a few nuances:

I am very supportive of this project and I hope that soon it will go to the masses and we will see new ways of interaction. In the meantime, I will continue to pick the SDK and wait for updates.

If you have questions and / or clarifications, then please ask them in the comments.
