Graphic spam has become three times more

The amount of spam with embedded graphics has tripled in the last three months, according to CipherTrust. Since the average size of a text spam letter is 5.5 kb, and the graphic one is 18 kb, the latter takes extra resources from telecom operators and service providers.

In RuNet, this type of spam appeared in the summer of 2003, according to Igor Ashmanov . As Alexander Kozlov, the head of the Yandex development team from the anti-spam division, says, now graphic spam does not cause serious problems , and its share in total spam traffic is 10-20 %. At the same time, according to CipherTrust statistics, the share of graphic spam has already increased to 30%. If in May last year the share of graphic spam was 3%, then in May 2006 it was already 10%, and by July it had grown three times more. Because of this, the total amount of spamming traffic has increased dramatically.
