The camera module for the Raspberry Pi will cost $ 25 and shoot FullHD video
After the start of development in May 2012, a long time has passed. It was not so easy to make a camera module for Pi, but work is nearing its end. In the official blog they say that camera modules will be available in a month or a little later. The quality of photos is already “quite good”, and by the beginning of sales they promise to bring it to the “beautiful”. Pre-declared price: $ 25 per module.
Some specifications: 5 MP sensor (2560 Ă— 1920 pixels), 1080p video shooting. ')
Unfortunately, the power of the Raspberry Pi processor is not enough for a full-fledged computer vision system to work. For example, when connecting a webcam via USB with a resolution of 320x240, the OpenCV system processes only 1.5 FPS .
But Raspberry Pi can shoot 1080p video and broadcast it over the network at 30 fps for processing on a normal PC, even with a couple of seconds lag, but this is really cool (see the video below). Thus, the Raspberry Pi is suitable for video surveillance systems, robotics and other areas where you need to shoot and transmit high-quality photos and videos.
Recall that a couple of days ago began selling Model A for $ 25. If it had an Ethernet port, it would be possible to make a network FullHD video camera for only $ 50, and you would have to pay $ 60, which, incidentally, is not bad either.
