Competitive admission of applications for improving the accessibility of GNOME
After collecting funds through the GNOME support company and through the Mozilla, the GNOME Foundation accepts applications from developers for projects to improve the accessibility of documents for users with disabilities in GNOME.
First of all, we are talking about PDF documents, word processor files, and HTML content. A partial list of modules and software projects that may be involved in improving accessibility for GNOME is as follows:
poppler (library for displaying PDF)
libxps (library for displaying XPS)
evince (PDF-and XPS-reader for GNOME)
WebKitGTK (a library for displaying HTML, used among others in Web, Yelp, and Evolution)
GNOME Documents (viewer for local and remote documents in GNOME)
')
The total fund for the project is $ 30,000 ($ 10,000 from Mozilla and $ 20,000 from the funds of the GNOME support company). Applications will be evaluated by a group of professional consultants, including those with experience in the GNOME project and members of the GNOME Foundation Board of Directors.
Suggestions should include:
A list of specific tasks to be solved and a list of related components;
Detailed information about your research into what level of availability of the end-user goals the modules have;
Timing and plan of the entire project;
Links to previous work in the field of GNOME or accessibility.
Application deadline is March 15, 2013. Applications should be sent to board-list@gnome.org with the subject “A11y of Documents Bid”.
