Inspired by the success of the Google Summer Code, on November 27, a similar version of this event called the
Google Highly Open Participation Contest was launched.
On Habré, I skipped a
link to this news, but I decided to publish more detailed information about the project.
So, anyone over the age of 13 who goes to school or college can take part in the competition. A verbatim excerpt from the rules: Students must be enrolled in a pre-university, eg high school or secondary school, educational institution. Therefore, it is not very clear who can still participate.
In order to become a participant you need to go to the
main page of the competition and select the project in the right column, in the development of which you want to participate (of course you must have a Google account).
The list includes the following projects:
Apache Software Foundation
Drupal
GNOME
Joomla!
Moinmoin
Mono
Moodle
Plone
Python
Silverstripe
After selecting a project, you will be taken to a page with a list of tasks that are proposed for this project.
The task selection looks like this:
')
Everyone who has completed at least one task will receive a T-shirt and certificate. The person who performs the three tasks will receive $ 100, but not more than $ 500 (that is, if you complete more than 15 tasks, you will still receive $ 500). And, of course, there will be 10 special prizes: a trip to Google Headquarters in California for the awards ceremony.
The competition will continue until February 3. Summing up will take place on February 11, 2008.

PS: Looked at the tasks of the Joomla project. All programming tasks have already been disassembled. The main tasks left are to write documentation, create a test plan and the like. True, there are quite interesting things, for example, to create a video tutorial on installing the system.
