There is no free wi-fi in the Moscow metro

Conversations around the topic of wi-fi in the Moscow subway went long ago - it turns out that even an auction was announced: telecom operators had to compete for the right to provide the Moscow subway with free Internet. A year ago, they launched test sites with free wi-fi .

However, the night before, it was announced that the Moscow authorities ’generous offer to provide hundreds of kilometers of roads and 8 million subscribers a day with free Wi-Fi could not find anyone who wanted to:

The application was not filed by any mobile operator. Refusal to participate in the auction in the comments to Interfax was confirmed by MTS, VimpelCom and MegaFon, and the representatives of MegaFon explained that the conditions of the auction “do not ensure the payback of the project”.

Despite the fact that I am extremely sorry for this idea, it is also possible to understand the operators:

“VimpelCom” did not submit an application, as it considers it possible to participate in the auction only on reasonable terms, "said, in turn, the press secretary of" VimpelCom "Anna Aybasheva.

I hope they will come back to this idea and will be able to negotiate with the operators. On the other hand, it would be nice to have a regular cellular connection and the buns relying on it in the form of 3G and LTE to finally make it work throughout the metro. Then free wi-fi is not needed.

PS on nag.ru an interesting article was published back in January predicting why nothing came of this story and could not come out.
