Nearly a year after the launch of the $ 35 Raspberry Pi Model B model, the Raspberry Pi foundation released the second promised model, which is now available for order in Europe (you can order it
here ). Soon the same model will be available for order in the United States.
On Habré already mentioned, the difference between Model A and Model B, but it does not hurt to remember. So, the main differences:
')
- in Model A there is no Ethernet port;
- there is only 1 USB port, not 2;
- developers provided 256 MB of RAM, not 512;
- Model A power consumption is about 3 times lower (with equal load) than Model B.
In general, the differences are quite significant. However, both models are equipped with an ARM11 processor with a 700 MHz core frequency. The sizes of models are also almost equal.
The missing Ethernet port is quite possible to replace the USB WiFi modem, and problems with access to the network are solved very quickly. As planned by the developers, the “younger” model can be used in devices where power is supplied from a solar battery. For example, it could be some kind of sensor, robot, or any other device.
On Habré, by the way, several very interesting ways of using Raspberry Pi have already been published.
