Minsky student Alexei Sokolov released the release candidate of the second version of TrueBSD OS - LiveDVD based on the 7th branch of FreeBSD. The system is intended primarily for novice users of FreeBSD, and is positioned by the author as a desktop OS, can be installed on a hard disk and has full backward compatibility with FreeBSD. Both binary packages from the seventh FreeBSD branch and ports can be installed on the system. TrueBSD can be used by system administrators to diagnose and repair the system. Since the release of release 0.1, a year has passed, but the new version of the system has version number 2.0. According to the OS author, this is connected not only with a huge number of changes in the system, but also with an established tradition in the community of system users to call version 0.1 - the first, and the new release - the second version.
Here is a description of the innovations from the project site :
* Instead of a CD, a DVD with a huge set of software is used (including KDE, Gnome, Compiz / Beryl, Amarok, OpenOffice.org); * UTF-8 support "out of the box" (except for the system console! It still uses 8-bit encodings); * Made the transition to the 7th branch of FreeBSD (this opens up a number of advantages for the user, which can be found on the website www.FreeBSD.org ); * Transition to the modular X-server Xorg version 7.X; * Support for Adobe Flash technology in all browsers installed on the system;
