France will disconnect audio and video pirates from the Network

According to the new anti-piracy policy, agreements between Internet providers, the government and content owners, French network users who abuse the download of pirated audio and video content may lose access to the Internet.

In accordance with the agreement developed by the commission headed by the executive director of the largest French chain of stores selling audio and video FNAC, Internet providers will send warning messages to users who download illegal content. If users decide not to give up freebies, their accounts will be blocked, and in the worst case, they will be deleted altogether.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy, in his statement supporting the agreement, said that:
We risk witnessing the true destruction of culture. The Internet should not become a lawless area where criminals can steal other people's work with impunity or, even worse, profit from it with complete impunity. And at the expense of someone preying? At the expense of artists.

A special independent body will be assembled to control the users, it will also decide when to send users an “electronic warning message”. This body will be monitored by the court.

This agreement also obliges film and music companies to make their content available on the Web in a faster time, and also to remove technical barriers, such as the same DRM, which does not allow playing music tracks on some platforms. The international recording industry has already supported the initiative.

Sarkozy said that it would take time to get the first results obtained through the new system, but in the end the problem of piracy will disappear. The French President seems to be determined: “If it works, we will continue in the same vein. If this does not work well enough, we will take steps to achieve results. ”
