Zopo launches Sailfish OS smartphone for the Indian market

Frankly, I thought that the first manufacturer to start producing devices on Sailfish OS would be ZTE. I thought so because ZTE already had the experience of releasing a device on Maemo 5. But now there was information that the first manufacturer of devices on Sailfish OS will be another Chinese company - Zopo, which will release at least one model of the average price segment for the Indian market this year. This was announced on the eve of the portal The Mobile Indian .

Not much is known about the device itself, but it is assumed that it will be based on the newest 4-nuclear hardware platform ST-Ericsson NovaThor L8580 , which is the answer of the joint Italian-French-Swedish enterprise to 4-core solutions of such well-known manufacturers of processors like Qualcomm, Samsung and NVIDIA.

In this regard, it is interesting that at one time, immediately after the refusal of the development of MeeGo and the transition to Windows Phone, Nokia was going to produce its future win-phones on the ST-Ericsson platform , about which even a special press release was sent. Apparently, Nokia has been eyeing this hardware platform since the days of Maemo & MeeGo, but then, most likely at the insistence of Microsoft, it was replaced with a similar solution from Qualcomm. And now ST-Ericsson pops up again in connection with the ex-Nokia startup Jolla.

At the expense of the availability of the Zopo apparatus on SailfishOS in Russia, so far, of course, nothing is known, however, given that, on the one hand, Zopo has a Russian representative office , and on the other, the heiress Maemo & MeeGo has plenty of fans in Russia that the smartphone on Saifish OS is absolutely legally available to us.
