From
a post published yesterday you already know about the capabilities and applications of the Intel Perceptual SDK. But you do not know the most important and interesting, namely: in order to support and motivate developers, Intel launched a contest for applications using the PerC SDK features, with a total prize pool of
$ 1,000,000 .
To participate in the competition, you need to submit an application that will use the PerC SDK capabilities for managing gestures, tracking positions, and identifying a user's face. Participation is, of course, free :) As the SDK itself is free, which can be downloaded
here . Moreover, the
camera required for full-fledged work of the SDK can also be provided to you at the time of the competition for free (sent by mail), details can be found on the contest page.
Winners will be selected in 4 nominations:
- Using PerC SDK in games. The application can use hand position tracking, gestures, voice recognition to interact with game characters, objects in the game space. Game examples can be found here.
- Sharing PerC SDK features. The application should show how one way of interaction (for example, voice control) can be complemented by another (gestures, hand control, tracking 2D / 3D objects, etc.)
- Creative user interface. An application that uses the PerC SDK features to interact with the user.
- Productivity. An application that enhances user productivity, for example, performing any actions selected by gestures.
The competition is divided into 2 stages, and the first, preliminary, is already underway and ends on February 20th!
')
In order to start participating in the competition at the first stage you need:
- Register on the contest website
- Select one or more of the categories listed above.
- Give a brief description of the proposed application. Yes, in English. But after all, prizes are calculated in thousands of dollars, not rubles :)
- Create a prototype of the application that will demonstrate the use of at least one of all the planned future features
- Create and send prototype screen shot
- Create and submit a video demonstrating and explaining the capabilities of the prototype
After the 20th, the selection of participants will start from among those who submitted applications and fulfilled the conditions listed above. The names of the winners of the first stage will be known after March 11th.
Four judges will evaluate the participating application using a scoring system according to the following criteria:
- How intensively the application uses the stated capabilities.
- Quality, stability, functionality.
- Understanding, intuitiveness.
- Perspectives of the idea of the application for which the prototype was created.
- Other factors - innovation, creativity, uniqueness.
The chance to win is great enough, because the results of the competition will be awarded to:
- $ 20,000 to the first four participants with the highest points in each category
- $ 5,000 to the following 16 participants
- $ 1,000 to the next 25 participants
After that, the second stage of the competition starts, which will already evaluate real applications and reward participants with much more significant amounts (distribution of remuneration of 20% for the first stage, 80% for the second.)
All the details can be found on the
Perceptual Computing Challenge website. The full text of the rules and conditions for participation in the competition in English is available
here .
At one time, I took part in such contests more than once, and as a person who had
won many
contests from Intel before, I can add that winning the contest is quite possible. To do this, you must at least have a desire to win, plus an interesting idea. Since I have recently worked for Intel, unfortunately I can’t participate in the competition anymore. But as a software engineer I can help with advice and technical advice to those who are ready and will participate. So do not hesitate - contact.
Good luck!
