Valve invites Windows users to try Steam for Linux

Steam is one of the largest platforms for digital distribution of games, already being actively used by thousands of gamers on Linux. Valve decided that now is the time to invite Windows users to try switching to another operating system.

Evidence of this in the screenshot and at this address. Right in the middle of the screen is a suggestion to try Steam for Linux, and even a link to download Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, one of the most friendly distros.

Considering Gabe Newell’s recent statement , this move by the company is not so surprising. In the next couple of years, we will definitely not see the new version of Windows, so for Valve, the switch to Linux is quite good. Steam Box will also work on Linux, so creating some hype and hype around this operating system will make console sales easier in the future.

The only thing that Valve needs to do now is expand the list of supported games on Linux. The absence of just one game can already stop several hundred gamers from switching. Valve understands this very well, so it’s safe to say that now most of the company's efforts are devoted to moving games and improving the client for Linux.
