Library 3.0

Imagine a library of incredible sizes. With many millions of books. Books of various, from all possible areas of human activity, on all possible and impossible topics. The library is public and free.

And everything would be fine and wonderful in this library. If it were not for one annoying feature.

Books in the Library do not have covers, tables of contents and subject indexes. And placed all the books on the shelves at random.

That is, to understand what this or that book is about, you need to look inside, and to find the place of interest you have to scroll through it all.

')

And since there are so many books, it’s simply not possible to find the one you need. But there are special people, many people, whole teams (let's call them librarians), who look through all the books and write out all the words in them in special forms. Each form, entitled with a word or a short phrase, lists books in which that word or phrase is mentioned. Access to these forms is provided to everyone (for a small fee). And there is no other way to find a book, except to ask for help from librarians so that they can help find books on a topic that interests you with the help of these very forms. And no one, in principle, does not prohibit the search itself. In a similar, spontaneous quest, you can even stumble upon something curious. In fact, for anything, but not for what I was looking for.

Strange library, is not it?

So, this Library is the Web, in the state that we have now.

A Semantic Web is a library in which the books are “correct” - with covers, flyleaves, tables of contents and other elements of identification and navigation. A library, books in which are grouped and sorted and it is quite possible to search for them there without the help of boring and mediocre librarians.
