A statistical study from Compete is devoted to an interesting new trend: the most visited websites on the Internet are social networks. They gradually take the place of traditional portals.
In June 2006, two out of every three American Internet users visited social networking sites. On the
graph, you can compare the attendance of the Yahoo and Google portals with the attendance of the ten largest social networks. Over the period from January 2004 to June 2006, attendance at the “social segment” of the Network grew by 109%, with the bulk of this growth in the last 12 months.
The list of the ten largest US social networks includes MySpace, Youtube, Blogger, Classmates, Facebook, Tickle, MyYearBook, Evite, Livejournal, and Typepad.
