PicUntu: Ubuntu for a mini PC based on Rockchip RK3066

Inexpensive mini-PCs, where the Rockchip RK3066 chip is used as a platform, have so far been considered exclusively as a TV set-top box. With the help of such "TV-sticks" you can turn a TV into a PC with Android. But now it is possible to turn such a system into a full-fledged Ubuntu-based PC. We meet PicUntu - a special Ubuntu distribution for gadgets based on RK3066.

Download PicUntu from here . It is worth remembering that the standard configuration of these mini-PCs includes 1GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal memory, a slot for microSD memory cards, a USB port, and HDMI. The size of the PicUntu distribution for such a device is 110 MB.

The positive point is the presence of WiFI drivers for the UG802 and MK808, plus support for additional devices that can be added in the next versions of these miniature computers. There are also negative aspects - for example, the lack of hardware acceleration for video. Yes, you can perform normal operations in the Ubuntu environment, but you can't play 3D games, and you can't watch HD videos.

The display resolution supported by the distribution is up to 1920 * 1080 pixels. There is support for wireless communication modules, as already mentioned, audio and other basic modules.

In PicUntu, during installation, it is possible to choose a configuration — either server-side or just a desktop PC. Additional packages include Apache, Samba, Joomla, Flash, Java, plus Xfce and GNOME.

And yes, additional hardware is required to install PicUntu on a mini PC. Namely - a PC with Linux.

More information, plus a distribution kit, it is possible to receive also here .
