BCache is ready to be included in the Linux kernel.
BCache is an advanced caching system for accessing SATA disks on SSD drives at the block level. There are two caching modes - writethrough (data is written to the main drive and cached on the SSD only for later reading) and writeback (the data is written first to the SSD, and then synchronized with the main carrier). The second mode is a bit more dangerous in terms of data loss and is apparently intended to be used in conjunction with a fault-tolerant system of SSD carriers. Detailed documentation is available in the source tree. Rejoice, the owners of cost-optimized servers, which are still holding a high load on the disk subsystem, such as database servers! The BCache mailing list announcedgood news, everyone about the project’s readiness for inclusion in the kernel. We follow the events and prepare the champagne.
