Habraslivki: golden posts "Habrahabra" and Geektimes

The previous top Habr / GT articles were interesting to read, but he didn’t make everyone happy: it seemed surprising to someone that the rating by the number of views consists mainly of pop materials. But the idea to make a more hardcore top still captured me enough to try to sort out all the posts of Habr and GT by quality. I still think that the neural network will cope with this task best, and probably this can be done now, if you spend a lot of time showing it various articles marked β€œcake / not cake”, but for now I have chosen an approach that is slightly simpler and using available data.

There are obvious flaws in the rating of views: a public counter on HabrΓ© appeared only in 2012, and the big part of the views comes from the search, and these are absolutely random people. Obviously, the quality of Habr articles should be evaluated by the users themselves, so the selection should be based on the post ratings. To select the β€œgolden posts of Habr,” I used the well-proven acquaintance from Dirty.ru and another resource for defining gold posts as publications, at least 98% of the votes for which are positive.

Most hardcore

Still too pop? I thought so. Therefore, here is a hardcore version for you, which only I can think up without connecting manual sampling or artificial intelligence: top gold posts ONLY WITH HABRA and ONLY FROM PROFILE HUBS. In principle, this option contains elements of manual sampling, because for several years now TM has been manually recasting the list of hubs, striving for a certain ideal. So if such a combination of the statistical approach with manual control does not give you a cut of posts that should be determined by THAT HABR, then nothing but neural networks will give:

Can I dig even deeper? Of the criteria available for analysis, only the tags and comments remain, but they are too non-universal to rely on.

Why do you need it?

Well, firstly - pure curiosity. Secondly, an extra argument in the debate on how Habre is no longer a cake. Thirdly, this is still quite an instructive story, showing the limitations of any old methods of cataloging information: no hubs, tags, ratings and subscriptions will save you a) from penetrating into your tape of what you absolutely would not want to see, b ) from missing important information that you absolutely need to know. Both the ribbon settings inside Habr and the habra-like resources themselves work like a large-mesh network in the ocean of information - which means that if you don’t change the approach, road signs and tires will always come across in your catch.

The fact that the change in approach can be just the neural networks, the power of which is only gaining momentum, and which so far are more often used as a toy - but this is also not news, the steam engine and gunpowder also went through this. However, self-learning algorithms may be more. And the ideal (more precisely, as close as possible to such) recommender system is one of the possible options for their use. But this is a topic for another conversation.

Plus, collect ushim for the collection and sorting of data, me for the idea and analysis. Statistics is available for picking here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Jf1UuNWQ0K09PsOYh7i0aVyAPRUE4gh794xfGf1x-rE/edit?usp=sharing
