Tactile transforming keyboard for touchscreen displays presented at CES 2013
On Habré, they have been writing for a long time about new technologies for creating keyboard for touchscreen displays, when the buttons appear as if on their own on a smooth and transparent display. One of the leading companies in this area is the company Tactus, which presented its own development at CES 2013. By the way, Tactus was already written on Habré, but the development of this company was demonstrated for the first time in the “field conditions”.
Looking at other concepts, this technology seems to be a ready-made project that is about to hit the market. As you can see, before the appearance of the virtual keyboard, the tablet surface remains smooth and transparent, no physical keyboard is visible. However, as soon as the virtual keyboard appears, the physical bulging buttons appear immediately. ')
These buttons are quite real, they are felt when pressed, unless they click like the usual buttons on a regular keyboard (but who prevents you from putting the corresponding sound on a key press event?). The technology is called Tactile Layer.
Everything said perfectly demonstrates the video posted below. Honestly, I would not mind getting such a tablet. Of course, it is unclear how easily the buttons are damaged, and how protected the coating is. But you have to think the company is working on this issue.
