The developers of the popular web programming language Python are preparing two major releases scheduled for 2008.
The first to come is Python 2.6, which will become an intermediate link before the release of Python 3.0, also known under the code name Python 3000. The alpha version of Python 3.0
was released in August 2007, and the final release is expected in August 2008. Beta version 2.6 will appear approximately in February, the final version - in March-April.
The third version implements several important innovations, some of which are incompatible with 2.x. David Goodger, director of the
Python Software Foundation, spoke about this. In addition to the main language development work, this organization is promoting Python and managing intellectual property rights.
The purpose of release 2.6 is to help developers explore their code for incompatibilities with Python 3.0. Included will be a special tool to facilitate the process of migration to the new platform.
