Songza - a fresh look at finding music

The Web has recently become one more useful and interesting startup. This is a searchable music service Songza with an elegant and user-friendly interface. Although it could not be otherwise, because the idea of the site and its interface was invented by Aza Raskin (Aza Raskin) - the son of Apple Macintosh founder and just interface guru Jef Raskin.

The Songza service was created in one month by the efforts of both Aza Raskin himself and Scott Robin (Scott Robbin) from the Humanized company, which belongs to the same Ruskin. The result was something like YouTube, only with music, not video (though not without it :). The site is a search service and at first glance is no different from the mass of other similar resources, but you just click on a track, as soon as you can see the differences that distinguish this service.

Search in Songza is done by song title or artist. When you click on any song found under the mouse cursor, an elegant menu appears with various sub-items: “play” (play), “add to playlist” (add to playlist), “rate” (rate) and “share” (share). Everything is clear with the first two points, but it’s worth telling a little about the remaining couple. When you hover the cursor over the menu item rate, a window pops up in which you can vote either for or against the track - the place in the search results will depend on the number of votes. As for the share item, then hovering over it also pops up a window that allows you to give a link to the track to a friend, simply copy the link to yourself, copy the embed code to your website, or watch a video clip on YouTube.

Songza differs from Last.fm in that it allows you to listen for free (download tracks, of course, is impossible) exactly the songs that the user chooses, and besides, she doesn’t contain the unnecessary functionality that Last Radio has - it’s not is needed. And of course Songza stands out for its very comfortable and lightweight design. In general, if I had unlimited internet, I would use this service. Moreover, the site does not affect the Russian users in choosing - the tracks of Russian performers are also excellent, as well as foreign ones.
