The Millennium Cell and Horizon Fuel Cell companies, which have been cooperating with each other for quite a long time, have announced that work on the first portable hydrogen generator, which practically any ordinary consumer will soon be able to afford, will be completed soon. The device developed by the companies is a small-sized silent alternator that operates on the basis of so-called dry cartridges, which are “activated” by adding water to them. Each such cartridge, judging by the words of the dismantlers, is completely environmentally friendly, can be stored indefinitely and is capable of delivering 400 watts for about 16 hours. The generator is equipped with a conventional outlet for ordinary household devices and several USB connectors.
The developers presented the very first version of the device at the 2007 Combined Exhibition for Advanced Technologies (CEATEC) in Japan, and the beta version of the Millennium Cell generator and Horizon Fuel Cell are planning to show CES 2007 visitors in Las Vegas in January 2008.
The cost of the "people's hydrogen generator" will be about $ 400, but the developers are still silent about the price of the cartridges. ')
