Russia and the United States will jointly fight free file sharing

On December 21, US Trade Representative Ron Kirk announced that Russia and the United States had agreed on an action plan to combat intellectual property violations, according to which Russia pledges to actively pursue pirates in all areas - to close websites illegally distributing copyrighted materials, to conduct raids, seize and destroy products and equipment used to violate copyright, to seek more severe punishments for pirates.

In addition, Russia will have to change the legislation in such a way as to strengthen administrative responsibility for copyright infringements and impose on Internet providers part of their efforts to combat piracy.

It is possible that we can talk about the introduction of an analogue of the "six warnings" system ("six strikes"), which is now being introduced in the United States . The provider will be obliged to monitor what the user is downloading, and if he has downloaded the "pirate", make him a warning. If the “piracy activity” stops - everything is in order, if not, the provider can take action - cut down the channel or completely disable the user after six warnings.

December 20, the day before it became known about the approval of the action plan, US President Barack Obama signed a declaration abolishing the Jackson-Vanik amendment with respect to Russia and Moldova. This amendment, in force since 1974, restricted free trade between Russia and the United States. The text of the action plan can be found here .
