Spider - new AMD platform
The penultimate week of the month began with a rather interesting event: AMD introduced a new platform that has some chances to become the main (and very effective) weapon in the competitive fight against Intel in the gaming systems market. In any case, some analysts say so.
Spider - this is the name of the new platform for desktops - is a set consisting of a four-core Phenom processor, a new 7-series logic set and an ATI Radeon HD 3800 graphics card (one, two or four). In addition, along with the "glands" AMD supplies software OverDrive to fine-tune the system. The list of technologies supported by the platform includes PowerPlay, Cool'n'Quiet 2.0, CoolCore, HyperTransport 3.0 and PCI Express 2.0. In other words, the Spider is only a set of top-end AMD / ATI equipment, ideally tuned to work with each other and intended for hardcore gamers and computer enthusiasts who can pay $ 900-1200 per car. However, nothing fundamentally new can not speak.
Nevertheless, Spider may well help AMD effectively compete with Intel in the market of powerful desktops, if only because the world's largest processor maker simply does not have similar products in its range. There is ViiV, as the basis for a home multimedia PC, and Centrino is a mobile platform that has nothing to do with serious gaming. All of them produce PCs in relatively small print runs and hardly master large volumes, and the popularity among gamers of these offices is not all right. Yes, and with marketing at Advanced Micro Devices, things are much worse than that of the same Intel. But I want to hope that the Spider will still find its place in the market.
