Pirates attracted viewers to the cinema

Man from planet Earth, billboard Today, when in the whole civilized world the illegal distribution of music and films through the efforts of Hollywood is pursued almost more seriously than the drug trade, it is truly amazing to hear words of gratitude to pirates from ... a film producer. But it was precisely these words that Eric Wilkinson (Eric Wilkinson), the creator of the film “Jerome Bixby's Man From Earth”, wrote in the letter of the Releaselog website administration. This film is an independent low-budget film in the science fiction genre, in advertising of which almost not a cent was invested. After touring a number of film festivals, it was released in the US on November 13th. However, the first days of the show, as expected, in terms of box office turned out to be a failure. Until the film appeared in file-sharing networks and was not discussed on the Internet ...

The first screen copies of the film were so popular with the audience that in a few days it took off in the MOVIEmeter rating on the IMDd site from 11,235th place to 5th! The film received dozens of positive reviews, reviews on a variety of resources about the movie, and, as a result, attracted much more viewers to the cinema than its authors had ever dreamed of. Eric Wilkinson bluntly says that all this was made possible "thanks to piracy on the web."

Whether it will serve as a lesson for rich Hollywood film studios that spend millions of dollars on advertising their films, time will tell. Well, the creators of copyright cinema, not spoiled by the general public’s attention, are clearly not worth it: without losing anything, they get an advertising tool that has just proved its titanic efficiency.
