2008 could be a breakthrough year for Linux

Analytical company Forrester conducted a study on how quickly US businesses are moving from Windows XP to Windows Vista, and what to expect in the future. It turned out that this migration is extremely slow. For almost a whole year since Vista was released, only 2% of enterprises switched to the new OS, and even less in Europe.

Worse, many companies do not plan to install a new version of Windows at all. In general, only 50% of all American enterprises are planning to switch to Vista in the foreseeable future, of which 7% of them are going to do this by the end of this year, 32% - by the end of 2008 and 17% - in 2009 or later.

Although Forrester analysts are optimistic about Vista, they mention Linux as a real threat in their report. They also report that in 2008, the position of Linux can be strengthened, because distributors are actively working to develop and improve corporate software on this platform.
