Just a couple of hours ago, the community released the next version of
Linux Mint - 4.0, codenamed Daryna.
It is based on the latest version of Ubuntu (7.10), fully compatible with it for packages and updates, but it has a significant number of improvements and improvements:
- Added One-Click Install technology (both in suse and fedora)
- Codecs out of the box
- Added default new compiler configurator
- Upload files to FTP directly from the menu of the nautilus
- Own update system, in which updates will be well marked, which may break something
- Desktop Configurator (which icons show which search to use)
- Windows Network Configurator
- Additional software (Google Earth, Picasa, Skype, etc.)
')
In addition, a large number of annoying Ubuntu 7.10 errors have been fixed, which require manual changes (for example, wear of screws on laptops).
Plus, as for me, the style of the mine is prettier than ubuntu, and you do not need to spend half an hour setting up spleshik, gdm,
sounds and other delights of African ubuntu.
In conclusion, I would like to note that soon the community will release Mint 4.0 with KDE and XFCE.
