Phoronix experts conducted a
series of tests , wanting to find out which of the popular Linux distributions is faster:
Ubuntu 7.10 or
Fedora 8 .
32-bit versions of Ubuntu 7.10 and Fedora 8 with a set of “default” packages entered the ring, under which game tests were conducted (Quake 4, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars), encoding speed tests LAME, Ogg, work with the disk ( hdparm) and memory (RAMspeed), gzip-compression.
The results turned out to be almost identical (friendship won). The 1.5% advantage demonstrated by Ubuntu does not exceed the measurement error. In general, both systems showed a high level of performance.
