As you know,
Kodak has recently become bankrupt. But this does not mean that the company does not cost anything, because for many decades of its work (more precisely, 132 years), a huge number of patents have been accumulated, which are the basis for many modern technologies. And these patents are going to buy Google and Apple. Interestingly, companies have combined their efforts (read - cash) to purchase 1,100 Kodak patents for $ 500 million.
Earlier, Apple and Google were interested in the mentioned patents separately, and even were competitors in this matter. But now there was an unexpected alliance. Actually, there is nothing to be surprised at such an alliance. because companies are thus trying to avoid patent lawsuits by competitors. And, as you know, “a thin world is better than a good quarrel.”
')
An example of such an alliance is the Nortel Networks patent purchase transaction by a group of companies involving Apple, Microsoft and Research in Motion. Then the package of 600 patents was estimated at 4.5 billion dollars. So now there can be another precedent when competitors join together to acquire important patents.
By the way, last month, Kodak received 830 million investment for bankruptcy proceedings. The patents themselves, which are put up for sale, concern technologies of capturing, processing and collaboration with digital images. Previously, the company stated that the price of a package of patents will be 2.21-2.57 billion dollars. But in the end, the price was much lower, since many of the patented technologies were licensed for a number of companies, including Samsung, LG, Google, Nokia, Motoroa Mobility.
