Curved LCDs can be used as screens in contact lenses.
A new study by the University of Ghent from Belgium gave a new impetus to the development of LCD displays that will be integrated into contact lenses and used as a heads-up-display. Unlike LED displays, which can show only a few pixels, the LCD-based screen can form an image with the entire surface.
Jelle De Smet, the principal investigator of the project reports that overcoming the difficulties of creating such a screen was not an easy task, which was solved by creating very thin spherically curved substrates with active layers capable of withstanding extreme casting processes. ')
The developers claim that such displays can be used to change the color of the eyes or as adaptable sunglasses. Although now the prototype is able to display some simple shapes. And in the next few years, according to the creators, the lenses can be quite autonomous.
