By 2010, Nissan is going to start production of cars with a special polymer coating, which will allow changing the color of the car with just one touch of a button.

The secret of the new technology is to use a polymer containing paramagnetic iron oxide particles as a coating. Under the influence of electric current, oxide crystals can change their location, which, in turn, changes their ability to reflect light and, as a result, allows changing colors.
Without current, however, a car with such a polymer coating will be just white. It is also not known how much a similar approach to painting cars will affect their total cost. But the idea itself is pretty and interesting and deserves commercial implementation.
