About six months ago, I was forced to become a Linux user. Having a little povibirav from the available distributions, I stopped at Debian, and then finally sat down on Ubuntu.
A lot has already been said about the merits of this distribution. The fact that a simple user does not need a terminal for work either. I often need a terminal to work. The standard Gnome terminal almost completely suits me and I did not install other programs. Not yet discovered
this program - "tilde".

')
The history of the tilde is rooted in 3D shooters, where the "~" key has long been used to invoke the console. The tilde in Ubuntu behaves in the same way. If you press a hotkey (F1 is used by default, but you can change it), then a terminal window pops up from under the top panel of Gnome and you can already work. When the terminal is not needed, we hide it with the same hot key.
Beautiful and comfortable.
The program can be installed in the standard way via the menu Applications> Add / Remove or by hand using the command
sudo apt-get install tilda
